The Korean Culture & Information Service (KOCIS) and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada (KCC) will co-host performance tours by Fusion Korean Traditional music group ADG7 with SORI agency this Summer in Eastern Canada. The tour will include appearances at major Canadian festivals, such as the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Festival d’été de Québec, the London Sunfest, and Toronto's Lula Lounge, marking the first collaboration of these festivals and venues with the KCC. ADG7 makes first appearances in these venues, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase Korea’s unique music on the international stage, and to foster new cultural exchanges through integration of Korea’s traditional music with Canadian jazz. These collaborative performances are particularly significant as they mark the sixtieth anniversary of CAN-KOR diplomatic relations, and will contribute to broadening the international recognition of Korean culture. ADG7 is known for creating and performing contemporary interpretations of traditional Korean folk songs and shamanic rituals, with a particular interest in excavating and reinterpreting the lesser known folk songs. Through innovative reinterpretations, ADG7 captivates audiences with their distinctive music and stage performances. These is a growing anticipation of how their creative music will be received by Canadian audiences with diverse cultural backgrounds. The KCC, as a collaborator of the Ottawa Jazz Festival, will provide an open-house event for festival attendees alongside ADG7’s performances from June 27 to June 30. Festival visitors will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of Korean culture during their visit to the KCC. Attendees with performance tickets will be able to dress in traditional Korean attire, hanbok, use the photo zone, learn Hangul calligraphy, and sample Korean snacks and beverages. The Korean Cultural Centre Canada and the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS, director PARK, Myeongsoon) are pleased to co-present ADG7 (Ak Dan Gwang Chil) with the Lula Lounge and SORI agency on June 28th in Toronto. Date: Wednesday, June 28, 2023 Time: Show 8PM / Food & Drinks 7PM Location: Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas St W, Toronto) Tickets: $31.05 (19+ only) *Up until May 31st, use the promo code ‘KCC’ to get $5 discount on your tickets* Ticket Inquiry:https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/adg7-korean-shamanic-folk-pop-tickets-616862511377 They’re not your daughter’s K-Pop band! The nine-piece South Korean ensemble ADG7 (aka Ak Dan Gwang Chil) draws equal inspiration from newly reclaimed Korean folk styles of gut and minyo and the contemporary Eurocentric stylings of modern K-Pop for music for a mix that will surprise you with its raucous, danceable energy. The band’s charismatic and ultra-fashionably dressed trio of frontwomen are backed by masterfully played traditional Korean instrumentation and present a distinctively theatrical style of performance that's like nothing you've ever heard before, but that you'll never forget. You won't want to miss the crowd-pleasing sonic sensations that The New York Times calls “catchy, bouncy, and brash.” ADG7 was organized in 2015, the year Korea commemorated its 70th anniversary of national liberation. By reconnecting with and reimaging shared Korean cultural roots, ADG7 expresses the true meaning of liberation and the desire for unification. The group's recognitions include Best Group at the 2018 KBS Korean Traditional Music Awards and the Sori Frontier Award at the 2017 Jeongju International Sori Festival, plus official showcase performances at WOMEX 2019 and globalFEST 2020. ADG7 has completed their 3-month long World Tour in 2022 including WOMAD, Roskilde Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival to name a few. Band Members: Kim Yak Dae (Daeguem), Lee Man Wol (Piri & Saenghwang), Choi Byung Hwal (Ajaeng), Woen Meondongmaru (Gayaguem), Chun Gung Dal (Percussion), Sunwoo Barabarabarabam (Percussion), Hong Ok (Singer), Myeong Wol (Singer), and Yoo Wol (Singer) Staff: Chun Jae Hyun (Director), Jung Sae Rom (Sound Engineer), and Bae Sang Hee (Producer)
