The Korean Cultural Centre and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Canada hosted on Friday, March 16th, an opening reception of Bang Jai Ja's exhibition <Chant of Light> and her artist talk. 

<Chant of Light> is a solo exhibition featuring 40 radiant, spiritual works by Bang Hai Ja whose artistic achievement is celebrated as being a part of the first generation of Korean abstract painting. Her search for the ultimate meaning of life, peace and universe resulted in her unique visual style as a “Painter of light.”

At the reception, Bang Hai Ja offered a reading of her poems which are longing for lights by focusing on the meaning of life, love and peace.   

There were also the performances by the student performance team from Nunavut Sivuniksavut. Affiliated with Algonquin College in Ottawa, the school is 'dedicated to providing Inuit youth with unique cultural and academic learning experiences that will allow them to develop the knowledge, skills and positive attitudes needed to contribute to the building of Nunavut. Five student performers demonstrated Inuit drum play and traditional throat singing at the opening. A participant in the reception said that the performance was quite meaningful as it shares the same value with Bang Hai Ja's art world, which celebrates the universality of life, love and peace.     

Bang Hai Ja has also been recently selected as the artist who will decorate the stained glass window at Chartres Cathedral in France. Chartres Cathedral is famous for its Gothic style architecture and its natural beauty where the cathedral is surrounded. Not surprisingly, the cathedral attracts a couple of hundred millions of tourists and more than 250,000 pilgrims annually. 

Chosen as the first contemporary artist who will decorate the stained glass at Chartres, Bang Hai Ja will install four different themes of works; Birth of Light, Life and Breath of Light, Love and Vibration of Light, and Peach and Chant of Light.
