The Korean Cultural Centre Canada
co-presents <2017 CDAK International Exhibition of Professional Artists>
with the Communication Design Association of Korea
(CDAK) at the KCC Gallery from Wednesday, July 5th, to Friday,
August 4th, 2017.
Comprised of 89 contemporary posters created by the professional graphic design artists from
Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, China and the U.S., who were invited by the CDAK for
its 2017 international show, the exhibition describes the
breath of Korean beauty shown in the whole clothing, food, and shelter in the viewpoint
of modern people, and examines how the traditional beauty and contemporary
aesthetics could be harmonized to be expressed through design art. Ultimately, exhibition
seeks the social functionality of contemporary
poster design that reinterprets and extends the meaning of Korean and Canadian
design suitable for the communications and mutual understanding between the two
cultures at the present time.
The Communication Design Association of Korea
(CDAK) was incorporated in 1999 under the authorization of the Korean Ministry
of Industry & Resources, with an aim to promote communications between
international designers while supporting the enhancement of capacity and
creativity among its members by organizing various exhibitions and educational
programs.
For the realization of this mandate, CDAK has been
organizing international exhibitions of professional graphic designers in
different cities since its inception. This year, CDAK visits Canada as a part
of Korea’s congratulatory events to the 150th anniversary of
Canadian confederation.
Under the theme of ‘Next Ko+nada(Korea+Canada)’ the
exhibition will provide with an opportunity to think about the cultural design
development between Korea and Canada. This
exhibition will create a place where the East and the West can communicate each
other for the creation and enjoyment of culture/art and design dreaming of
culture-centered society where the diversity and creativity of culture are
respected. The design of the future here means all the cultural designs shown
in every part of life in Korea, and it aims to communicate the meaning born by
newly combining the past/present of design with the future.
The KCC launched in September 2016 under the jurisdiction of the Embassy
of the Republic of Korea. Since then, a true increase in cultural exchanges has
been witnessed between Korea and Canada. Interest in Korea and Korean cultural
contents by the Canadian public has also escalated in the same time period,
judging from the increased number of attendance at the recent KCC events.
Taking advantage of this positive momentum, KCC is eager to promote the creativity
and excellence of Korean design culture in Canada while informing the design competency of Korea to Canada
through visual messages.
Based on the vibrant friendship and mutual understanding between Korea
and Canada, the exhibition is expected to provide the public in
both countries with an opportunity to form a consensus in diversity and
creativity by sharing each other’s art works, enabling us to march together in
building a culture-centric society.
