The Korean Cultural Centre hosted the 2016 K-Pop Dance Gala on December 3rd at the Canadian Museum of History.

The Gala included performances by 13 Canadian dance teams from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa! The performances retraced the history of the Korean Wave from its humble beginnings all the way to its present standing as a worldwide phenomenon!

Back in the 1990s, K-Pop fans cheered on their idols using balloons but glow sticks have since become the most popular accessories at concerts. In celebration of this, Canadians used balloons for the first half and glow sticks for the second half of the K-Pop Dance Gala!

The 13 teams covered songs by H.O.T, BoA, BigBang and 2PM, as well as later hits by G.Friend and BTS. The closing performance was a collaboration of all 13 teams in commemoration of the first and most renowned Korean song to become known the world over – the famous “Arirang”.

Following the Gala, an audience member said that she learned a lot about the history of K-Pop and was happy to be introduced to a number of new K-Pop groups. She also said that the Gala deepened her love for K-Pop and that she looks forward to future events hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre in Ottawa.
