2025 Fall K-Culture Courses in Ottawa / Montreal / Toronto / Online

The Korean Cultural Centre Canada is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Fall K-Culture Courses this September. Classes will run from September to November.
This semester, we are offering Korean music, dance, sports, tea, and art classes in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, and online.
Each class requires a separate registration. Please read the course details carefully before submitting your application form.
KCC (Ottawa)
1. Danso
The danso is a Korean notched, end-blown vertical bamboo recorder used in Korean folk music.
Time: 17:45 - 19:15

2. Nanta & Samgomu
This course offers a dynamic introduction to traditional Korean rhythms and the cultural spirit of Heung, which is the joyful energy and expression.
Nanta fosters rhythm and teamwork with vibrant percussion, while Samgomu highlights Korea’s elegance and cultural richness through graceful drum choreography.
*Nanta: traditional style of drumming dramatizing the rhythms of Samulnori using the traditional Korean barrel drum called Buk.
*Samgomu: traditional Korean drum dance performed with three standing drums, combining dynamic movements and rhythmic drumming.

3. Korean Traditional Dance
This course introduces students to traditional Korean dance forms such as fan dance and the folk circle dance Ganggangsullae. Students will also explore contemporary Korean creative dance, learning various styles choreographed to K-pop.

4. Sagunja & Minhwa
Discover the Symbolism of Sagunja
Learn how plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums, and bamboo reflect timeless Korean virtues such as honesty, humility, resilience, and patience.
Use authentic Korean art materials — Hwaseonji paper, Mukmul ink, natural pigments, and traditional brushes — while learning classic techniques like Barim (gradation), line work, and coloring.
Understand Cultural Contexts
Explore the deep connections between art and leadership in Korean tradition, and gain insight into Minhwa — the colorful, symbolic world of Korean folk painting.
By the end of the lesson, students will have a deeper appreciation of Korean traditional values and aesthetics, and will complete two personal artworks: one inspired by Sagunja and another by Korean Minhwa tradition.

5. Hanji Craft
Hanji is a type of traditional paper that comes from the inner bark of the mulberry tree. Craft everyday item made from hanji. Join us for an immersive hands-on experience in the art of Korean Hanji mulberry paper crafts!

6. K-Pop Vocal Class A (Beginner & Korean Pronunciation Focus)

- Focus on Korean pronunciation, lyric reading, and basic vocal training
- Learn easier songs with lower vocal ranges and simple rhythms
- Perfect for K-pop beginners and Korean language learners at the beginner level

7. K-Pop Vocal Class B (Performance & Vocal Technique Focus)

8. K-Pop Dance Beginner
This course offers weekly workshops featuring different easy songs each week, taught at a beginner level to introduce students to a wide variety of K-pop choreographies.
Time: 19:00 - 20:30

9. K-Pop Dance Intermediate
This course offers K-pop cover preparation for students with prior K-pop dance experience and a faster learning pace.

10. Korean tea
Discover the art of Korean tea appreciation, complemented by a selection of Korean teas and snacks.
Time: 19:00 - 21:00

11. Janggu (Traditional)
Learn the fundamentals of Janggu, a traditional Korean drum, including basic rhythms (Jangdan), proper technique, and group ensemble skills through step-by-step practice.

12. Janggu (K-Pop)
In this course, participants will learn the basic rhythm of the traditional Korean percussion instrument, 'Janggu,' and experience Korean culture through its application to K-pop songs.

13. Korean Traditional Dance
Korean traditional dance, with roots tracing back over five thousand years, now ranges from folk dance to newly created and adopted contemporary dance styles.
In this new course, you will have the opportunity to learn a modernized form of Korean dance, combining the basic steps, breathing techniques, and movements of traditional Korean dance with contemporary elements. Build a strong foundation in Korean dance while creating your own unique dance style.

14. Korean Music 101
Korean Music 101 explores the types of Korean traditional music, its related history, and sociocultural context, and discusses how elements of traditional music are represented in K-pop and Korean cultural content. While there will be time to learn music and dance, such as pansori, folk songs, drumming patterns, etc., the focus will primarily be on explanations and audiovisual materials.

15. Taekwondo (Beginner)
Taekwondo is a martial art that originated in Korea over 2,000 years ago. This course will introduce basic Taekwondo techniques and exercises to those who are new to Taekwondo.

This course provides K-Pop dance instruction at an faster pace, and prior experience is advised.

6. K-Academy programs have limited spaces and are free-of-charge. As missing a session takes away an opportunity from someone else, we take attendance seriously. Therefore, anyone who fails to attend classes without a valid reason will be penalized in future registrations for all KCC programs.
