[2022 Korea Week] The Heart of Korea: Jeollabuk-do Culture Day – Day 1

 In case of heavy rain tomorrow (June 1st), the Heart of Korea: Jeollabuk-do Culture Day at the Lansdowne Park will take place inside the Horticulture Building! 


Jeollabuk-Do is one of the provinces (Do) in Korea, also a birthplace of many traditional cultures and arts. Pansori, a traditional melody, originates from Jeollabuk-Do and many masters in Korean calligraphy proudly calls the provinces their home. Not only that, but the province is also well known for its traditional cuisines and Korean table d'hote and Jeonju Bibimbap are some of the nation's favourites.

The KCC introduces Canada to the customs and traditions of the Jeollabuk-Do in 2020 Korea Week, providing a safe environment to experience the many unique cultures the province offers. 


 Main Programs

1)Hanbok Fashion Show : 18:00 ~ 18:30


Presented by Canadian students, wearing Korea's traditional garment - Hanbok.

The show will present hanbok ranging from casual daywear to royal garments that were specifically reserved for kings and queens.






Hanbok will be available for Canadians to try on, and photo zone set up to preserve the memories.



 

 

 

2) Korean traditional Performances : 19:00 ~ 20:00

 

Jeollabuk-do Gugak Centre, a provincial organisation, visits Canada!

Experience Korean traditional music and dance, including ‘pansori’, in the capital of Canada.

Bring your own chair to sit and get comfy!




3) Calligraphy Performance and experience: 16:00 ~ 19:00

 

See masterful strokes with a gigantic brush!

And experience the Asian calligraphy for yourself with provided ink and brush in this program. 

 


4) Hanji craft: 16:00 ~ 19:00

 

Create your own bookmark using Korean papers and flowers.        



         

 

5) Flea market: 16:00 ~ 20:00

 

Flee market opens with various handcrafted goods all the way from Korea! These goods were crafted using traditional methods. Come and see the unique stocks of goods. Maybe you will find you next tumbler is here!





6) Miniatures exhibition: 16:00 ~ 20:00

 

Created by a Korean YouTuber, the miniatures exhibition displays various traditional food from Jeollabuk-Do. See the miniatures yourself and the making of footage at the exhibition.


 




7) Traditional games experience 16:00 ~ 19:00

 

Come and play traditional games! We are providing an experience for all ages!         


 

 


8) Jeollabuk-Do tourism promotion centre

 

Are you intrigued by the province? There will be a booth promoting tourism and industries in Jeollabuk-Do at the event too



 


9) K-food


You can’t have a festival without food! Korean food vendors from Ottawa will sell ‘Hot Dog’, a Korean style corndog, and ‘Dakgangjeong’, boneless fried chicken.



There will be Jeonju ChocoPie as well, a traditional hand-crafted cake with chocolate, strawberry jam, cream and walnut! These will be sold at $2 each, so bring your toonies!
