Opening reception

- Tuesday, September 5, at 17:30/ KCC

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, the Culture & Information Service (KOCIS), the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), the Korea Foundation and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada (KCC) proudly open <Intense Difference of Its Own: 60 Years of Korean-Canadian Diplomatic Relations>.

Co-presented by the KCC and the National access Arts Centre in Calgary and the Korea Foundation, <Intense Difference Of Its Own> is designed to listen to marginalized voices and share the values of the two countries through dialogue, which is a key aspect of cultural diplomacy.

It also showcases the immense talent and experimental spirit of artist with disabilities working in both countries and on the international stage, and their potential to play a leading role in cultural exchanges.

The exhibition features 28 art works of drawings, painting, and videos created by 12 Korean and Canadian artists as part of a collaborative project with several independent studios. The artists include Won Lee, Pixel Kim, Brian Ehnis, Carol Harris, Michelle Bennie, Anthony Hodgetts, Rory Berk, Thomas Sinclar, Maddux Ma, Nathan Neutel, Laura LaPeare, and Jamie Petit.

Themed with ‘Place, Composition and Others', <Intense Difference Of Its Own> is expected to provide viewers with a glimpse of the artists’ different perspectives on the world we live in, while investigating the unique personalities and idiosyncrasies that arise when art break down the barriers of disabilities.
