[Virtual K-Culture #57] Performing Arts Series #7 – Korean Men (Lee Heemoon x Prelude x Nom Nom)
The Korean Cultural Centre is pleased to present the seventh team of our <VKC Performing Arts Series>, Korean Men (Lee Heemoon x Prelude x Nom Nom)
Originally created for the National Theatre of Korea, Korean Men takes a hilarious look at male and female roles today, through the use of Korean folk music and jazz. Led by Lee Heemoon, an extraordinary Korean folk singer who earns acclaim as a groundbreaking iconic artist with each performance, Korean Men combines Gyeonggi minyo (folk songs from central province around Seoul) and jazz performed by Korea's top jazz group Prelude, accompanied by an electrifying minyo duo Nom Nom. The Korean Men is a perfect musical harmony of East and West that included a reinterpretation of 9 kinds of minyo, each assigned with a visual idea, unique storytelling and performance.
This video will be composed of 3 songs chosen from highlights of their past performances: ‘Difficult Love’, ‘Like This, Like That, and ‘Santaryeong'. We hope you enjoy the exciting performance of Korean Men!

1. 난봉가 Nanbong-ga (Difficult Love)
As a folk song from the Northwestern province of Korea, this song is about a difficult, complicated love. It has been re-arranged to express an exhilarating mood portrayed by a casanova’s love story.
2. 이리렁성 저리렁성 (Like This, Like That)
This song is an arrangement of the ‘Mortar Song (Bang-ah Taryeong)’ out of the Gyeonggi-region folk song. Known for its level of difficulty in techniques, this song effectively expresses the charm of gentle, sweet and cheerful Gyeonggi-minyo.
3. 산타령 (Santaryeong)
As a representative song of standing-style folk songs from Seoul, Gyeonggi and northwestern regions of Korea, this song paints the scenery and view of mountains and streams. It features the composition of slow tempo in the beginning, gradually speeding up towards the end.
