[Virtual K-Culture #13] <The Banquet> - National Dance Company
This weekend, the Korean Cultural Centre Canada is pleased to introduce you to the performance <The Banquet> from the National Dance Company of Korea.
Established in 1962, the National Dance Company of Korea (a resident company of the National Theatre of Korea) has been introducing works rooted in traditional Korean dancing and its history, presenting versatile and innovative interpretation of traditional Korean dance. They introduce repertoires which combine the traditional and the modern.
Composed with traditional dance repertoires of Korean dance masters, <The Banquet> presents the past and present of Korean dance, including traditional court dance, movements from religious rituals, as well as folk dance. The repertoire includes representative royal court dances, Buddhist ritual Seungmu (Buddhist dance) and Janggochum (double-headed drum dance), one of the leading folk dances of Korea. Encapsulating elegance and virtue, <The Banquet> unfolds in five traditional colours arranged with the changes of seasons.
The National Theatre will make the entire 90-minute performance available for viewing for a limited time from April 24th to May 1st, in joining the effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
