[Virtual K-Culture #34] K-Food Webtoon: Gungjung Tteok-bokki

The fourth episode of K-Food Webtoon Series continues with Chef Han of the Korean Ambassador’s Residence. This time, Chef Han introduces Gungjung Tteok-bokki which was a delicacy enjoyed by the royals in the Joseon Dynasty, and the origin of the common street dish Tteok-bokki widely popular today.

 

The KCC launched the K-Food Webtoon series last April to introduce Korean food and recipes to provide an opportunity to learn to cook and try Korean food from home. We hope you will try these recipes and continue to experience Korean culture at home.

Sunmin Han is currently posted in Canada as the head chef at the Korean Ambassador’s residence. She graduated from the International Cooking College in Korea, has a certificate from the Institute of Korean Traditional Food and worked as the head chef at the Korean Embassy in Indonesia.

 

About ‘Gungjung Tteok-bokki’

Gungjung Tteok-bokki is a dish that was enjoy in the royal courts of Korea with beef, shiitake mushrooms and rice cakes in the say sauce. It has a beautiful color mix from different ingredients such as black from mushroom, white from onion, red from carrot and yellow from egg garnish. It’s also known as nutritious food.
