2019 K-Academy (February-June)

This year, the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) is pleased to launch K-Academy, a new series of cultural classes that provide cultural learning activities from February until June.


K-Academy is comprised of 6 different classes that will allow you to learn and experience a variety of Korean cultural aspects, including Baduk, Taekwondo, Hansik, Traditional Dance, Minhwa, and Hanji crafts.


All classes require separate applications, and on a first-come first served basis.


Application forms are available in this post below under each class description. You can also fill out the form in person at the KCC Reception Desk.


Application Submission: Completed application forms can be submitted in person at the KCC Reception Desk or by sending us the scanned version by email to Canada@korea.kr


*Baduk, Taekwondo, Traditional Dance are classes which require one application each for the semester

*Hansik, Minhwa, and Hanji crafts require applications for each session

1. BADUK (GO)


Baduk is a abstract strategy board game played by two players with an aim to surround 

more territory than your opponent using white and black-colored stones. 


Time: Every Thursday 6PM-8PM

First session: February 21

Location: KCC 

Registration Fee : $10 per semester

No previous knowledge required

2. TAEKWONDO


Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, 

and fast kicking techniques. It is a great sport for people of all ages. 


Time: Every Tuesday 12PM-1PM

Location: KCC 

Registration Fee: $10 per semester

3. Korean Traditional Dance 


Korean Traditional Dance with roots tracing back five thousand years ago, now ranges from folk dance to newly 

created and adopted contemporary dance. 

Here is an opportunity to learn steps, breathing, movements and a full choreography with traditional drum dance as well.


Time: Every Tuesday 6PM-8PM

Location: KCC 

Registration Fee: $50 per semester (fee includes shoes and costume)

4. KOREAN FOOD COOKING CLASS


Hansik, or Korean Food, is gaining global attention for its taste, variety, nutrition and more. 

This is your opportunity to learn customary cooking traditions and practices with one of Ottawa’s top Korean chef. 


Time: Every first Monday of the Month, 6PM-8PM 

Next session: June 3

Location: Albion Heatherington Recreation Centre(1560 Heatherington Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 9P5)

Registration fee: $10 per session

5. MINHWA (KOREAN FOLK ART) 



Minhwa, or Korean folk art, means “painting of the people” and was created with hopes for good fortunes 

and the determination to prevent any harmful deeds. 

Come and learn how to paint using traditional methods and tools and create your own piece of Minhwa. 


Time: Every second Wednesday of the month, 5:30PM-8:30PM 

Next session: June 12th

Location: KCC 

Registration fee: $20 per session

6. HANJI CRAFT (KOREAN PAPER ART) 


Hanji is the name of traditional handmade paper that comes from the inner bark of Paper Mulberry, a tree native to Korea. 

From doors to lanterns, Hanji was used to make a variety of items used everyday in Korea. 

Come join us and learn how to make different crafts with Hanji. 


Time: Every third Wednesday of the month, 6PM-9PM

Next session: June 19th
