[Virtual K-Culture #35] MMCA Collection Highlights 2020+ Exhibition
The Korean Cultural Centre is please to introduce the「MMCA Collection Highlights 2020+」by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea (MMCA), as the 5th exhibition program of its Virtual K-Culture series.
“Collection is the most important factor in characterizing a museum. As the only national art museum in Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has been acquiring and collecting approximately 10,000 works of modern and contemporary Korean art since its inauguration in 1969, with an aim to establish a unique Korean art history. The MMCA Collection provides pivotal data and resources for its museum activities.” the MMCA manifests.
As the first permanent exhibition held at the MMCA Seoul, which opened in 2013 as the 4th exhibition space of the MMCA,「MMCA Collection Highlights 2020+」presents 50 selected art pieces among its most representative modern and contemporary Korean art collection.
Comprised of 4 different periodic sections; “From the Opening of Ports to Liberation,” “Prelude to an Era of Division,” “Toward International Art,” and “Democratization and Contemporary Globalism,” the exhibition provides visitors a rare opportunity to see some major art works in Korean art history including the installations by internationally acclaimed contemporary artists LEE Bul and Suh Doho.
